Crafts in Ronda
They can be seen in every journey around the city, the craft
tradition in Ronda leaves a mark in each of us that observe it.
Decorated balconies with a fantastic method of treating the
foundry, furniture carved in noble types of wood which make the
halls of palaces and big houses more comfortable, beautiful
ceramics that hang from the walls on the streets, like the
murals that give color and call the attention of those that pass
by.
Foundry in Ronda

The lock of Ronda’s Bullring, typical forge in Ronda, and the
carving of foundry in the city come from centuries ago and had a
great tradition. Today, even though it’s been a really big
tradition, very few artisans still work on this. We can find an
example of this art on the bars of balconies, and handles of
doors and furniture; like those of the Real Maestranza or those
of the Espinel Street.
Woodcarvings

Since the end of the 19th century woodcarving reached great
importance, the multiple forest resources of the mountain chain
gave work in the field of noble woods like chestnut and walnut
wood. The School of Arts and Crafts Alfonso XIII was created in
Ronda with the support of the Duchess of Parcent and directed by
Santiago Hernandez, natural from Granada, who came to Ronda to
restore the House of the Moorish King.
Today we have the Ciudad del Tajo Association that keeps
offering us Ronda’s artistic woodcarvings. The Municipal Company
of Furniture in Ronda was also created, waiting only for their
origin denomination to be assigned.

Ceramics
This work brings us back to the tile-work that is still latent
in Arcos de la Frontera; in the city of Ronda the white varnish
is a characteristic of its ceramics, in the Gaucin Station they
work with artistic and decorative ceramic for both murals and
constructions.

Talabartería
A profession that makes an art the manipulation of materials
such as cloth, leather, rye, straw and wool, among others, to
build tools for life and work in the field, like belts, clothes
and ropes, among others.

Today there are very few that dedicate themselves to this field,
but thirty years earlier Ronda had more than twenty five
“talabarteros” who have left magnificent samples of their work.
Art and other materials
To mention also the importance of esparto grass and palm leafs
in the process of creation of curtains, carpets, baskets, etc…
very characteristic on the zone; also the work on leather as a
design material and cork for the creation of house tools.
Art and Food
The alimentary products that are made artistically in Ronda are
known worldwide. We find from chacianas and Iberian products to
traditional sweets, honey, liquor, horse chestnut conserves and
fruits all of them made like women used to in the old days.
Artisan and ecological products, animal or herbal, and the way
of making them are acquiring great importance in Ronda, we have
the Biodiversity Exposition of Cortes de la Frontera.
